Over the last few years, hand-stitching has returned to my sewing repertoire in a big way. Initially, I turned to a needle and thread as a solution for creating the teeny stitches needed for a stuffed toy.
And then my machine was on the fritz and I needed to finish the waistband on a skirt.
And then I got hooked on making yoyos after visiting the Amish Quilt Museum in Intercourse, PA, after watching an attendant at the museum whip out one yoyo after another just to kill time while sitting at the admission desk.
At any rate, I have come to appreciate how hand-stitching gives me wings rather than slow me down. My skills are a bit rusty, but it feels wonderful to have a project in my lap and the freedom to seek the sunniest window in the house, rather than be tethered to the one spot where my machine is located.
