I have had pockets on my brain for the last several days. In a few weeks or so, it will probably be warm enough to start working on my green linen trousers.

At this stage, the big hang-up for me is that I want/need generous pockets in front. But I don’t want patch pockets (too horsey), and I don’t want side-seam pockets (the absolute worst location vis-a-vis the female silhouette). Just as I was about to give up hope, I stumbled on an inspiring website with an inspiring article on “jetted” pockets. Aha…The perfect solution!
Rather than attempt to describe jetted pockets myself, I’ll let this brilliant tutorial from Thread Theory, a Canadian fashion design site, do the talking. It’s beautifully written, Best of all, the writer actually knows the difference between jetted and welt pockets and shares my passion for sewing with linen. I’m in love!
Although the above photo shows the jetted pockets positioned on the back of the pants, I’ll put mine on the front, set in from the side seams a couple of inches and low enough that they line up with my hands.
